Filmless & All-in-One — An automated QA system that verifies HDR brachytherapy source position and dwell time without film, completing verification in approximately 100 seconds.
BIM (Brachy-Isotope Manager) is an all-in-one filmless QA system designed to verify the positional and temporal accuracy of Ir-192 sources used in HDR brachytherapy. Four components — scintillator, camera, analysis software, and database — are integrated into a single device, enabling QA completion in approximately 100 seconds with automatic report generation, eliminating the need for film processing.
Unlike conventional approaches that rely on film-based source position verification and stopwatch-measured dwell time, BIM achieves absolute source position accuracy below 1 mm and dwell-time accuracy of approximately 0.1 seconds through automated measurement. It is compatible with major HDR systems including Elekta, Varian, and W&Z Bebig, and supports the daily, periodic, and source-replacement QA checklists recommended by AAPM TG-40 and TG-56 guidelines.
The underlying technology is protected by a Korean patent registered in 2019 (Apparatus and method for measuring radiation dose distribution of brachytherapy source), with US and European patent applications pending.
- All-in-one workflow for routine HDR QA before and after each treatment fraction
- Film-free simultaneous verification of source position and dwell time with a single device
- Compatible with major HDR systems including Elekta, Varian, and W&Z Bebig without additional setup
- Automated report generation to minimize manual workload and streamline record management
